About the Fauquier County Roller Hockey League

FCRHL is a local recreation league that is focused on youth participation. The league was formed in 1999 by a Warrenton resident whose children had a desire to play competitive roller hockey. The first season there were approximately 25 participants in the league. The league has continued to grow and this Spring 2008 projections are for nearly 200 players in 4 age groups.

The league has operated as a non-profit since inception with all funds raised through registration being spent to provide youth programs. Equipment to start the league such as rink boards, pucks, sticks, etc. were purchased by a parent using a home equity line of credit. In December 2004, the league finished paying the home equity loan balance. The league continues to operate with parent funding and tens of thousands of volunteer hours each year.

FCRHL is a sanctioned league with USA Hockey Inline.  This is the inline division of USA Hockey which is the largest national sanctioning body for the sport of hockey.  This association provides many benefits to our players and the rink.  Many players compete in USA Hockey Inline and AAU sanctioned tournaments across the nation.  In March 2007, FCRHL took steps to install Ice Court flooring, providing a state-of-the-art inline surface for our players.  This surface has allowed our house, high school and travel players to continue to develop their skills on the fastest surface in inline hockey.

FCRHL conducts competitive and family friendly games each Spring and Fall.  Participation in the league is open to all children ages 5 to 18. The league initially operated 3 age groups, but now operates 4 age groups that are 8U, 10U, 13U and 18U. There are no try-outs for participation and FCRHL does everything possible to ensure playing time for each participant.

The league anticipates continued growth in participation numbers and, with this growth, continued demand for practice and game times and locations.  FCRHL recently named Kyle Shrauger, professional inline player and trainer, as Director of hockey operations.  This brings tremendous benefit and opportunity to the youth players in our league.  In addition, FCRHL has begun planning an enclosure for the rink to provide opportunity for improved programs and scheduling with complete indoor play.
